So today we are going to learn about the differences between British English (BrE) and American English (AmE). You can watch the video and the picture above to get a grasp on the differences between them. Here are some of the differences between British English and American English:
1. Spelling (BrE usually adds 'u' in some words. ex:Colour(BrE), color (AmE) 2. Differences in word stress (BrE stresses more on the initial syllable while AmE stresses more on final syllable. Ex: Vaccine(BrE), vaccine(AmE) 3. Pronunciation differences in words ending in -ile (ex: agile, fertile) 4. Pronunciation of 'A' sound (ex: bath - refer video) 5. Pronuncition of 'r' sound, which BrE usually don't stress on 'r' sounds (ex: hard - refer video) 6. The 'T' sound (middle), which BrE usually put the stress on 'T' sounds while AmE pronounce the 't' more like 'd' sounds. (ex: better-BrE, AmE pronounce "better" as "bedder"- refer video) Now, you know the differences. So, which accents are you inclined to? Yours truly, Humairaa❤ First thing first, let us recall what is actually LANGUAGE DISORDER?
A language disorder is a communication problem that affects a child's ability to understand and use language. A speech disorder, on the other hand, impacts a child's ability to generate sound. What causes language disorders?
High-rIsk factors of having language disorders:
Types of language disorders (REM): 1) Receptive language disorder (comprehension problems) - Children with this type of disorder have difficulty understanding what they hear or read, as well as what others are saying. They frequently respond in illogical ways (ways that don't make sense). Symptoms (children face trouble with):
2) Expressive language disorder (trouble using language) - Children may be able to understand what others are saying, but they struggle to communicate with others and express their thoughts, feelings, needs, and ideas. The illness affects all forms of communication, including spoken, written, and sign language. Symptoms (children face trouble with):
3) Mixed receptive-expressive language disorder: Children who have both diseases struggle to grasp what others are saying as well as to be understood by others. The symptoms are the combination of both receptive and expressive language disorders symptoms. How to treat them? 1. Speech and language therapy
- This aids in the treatment of related emotional or behavioural issues. Thus, this issue is crucial especially for language teachers to understand and analyze the students with language problems as the students might have shown some of these symptoms.
