Hello everyone! So today we are going to learn about the differences between British English (BrE) and American English (AmE). You can watch the video and the picture above to get a grasp on the differences between them. Here are some of the differences between British English and American English:
1. Spelling (BrE usually adds 'u' in some words. ex:Colour(BrE), color (AmE) 2. Differences in word stress (BrE stresses more on the initial syllable while AmE stresses more on final syllable. Ex: Vaccine(BrE), vaccine(AmE) 3. Pronunciation differences in words ending in -ile (ex: agile, fertile) 4. Pronunciation of 'A' sound (ex: bath - refer video) 5. Pronuncition of 'r' sound, which BrE usually don't stress on 'r' sounds (ex: hard - refer video) 6. The 'T' sound (middle), which BrE usually put the stress on 'T' sounds while AmE pronounce the 't' more like 'd' sounds. (ex: better-BrE, AmE pronounce "better" as "bedder"- refer video) Now, you know the differences. So, which accents are you inclined to? British or American accents? or just Malaysian English accent (manglish)? I guess you have to reflect on that 🤣 Happy learning everyone, thank you! With love, Humairaa❤
